Mr. Walton has successfully defended clients in many jury trials on charges ranging from murder to OVI. He has cross-examined police officers during more than 200 suppression hearings. For the past 30 years the focus of his practice has been criminal defense, with an emphasis on alcohol and drug related vehicular offenses. Mr. Walton has been the featured speaker at more than 75 seminars held throughout Ohio and sponsored by the Ohio State Bar Association, the Ohio Judicial College, the Cleveland-Metropolitan Bar Association, the Cuyahoga County Public Defender's Office, the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, the West Shore Bar Association, the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and many other organizations. He often lectures on the topics of Cross-Examination, Search and Seizure, OVI, Driver's License Suspensions and Reinstatement. For the past eight years, Mr. Walton has been named a Super Lawyer in the area of Criminal Defense: DUI/DWI, a distinction awarded to only two lawyers in Cuyahoga County during that period. 

Mr. Walton served as an acting judge in the Shaker Heights Municipal Court for 25 years. Mr. Walton and Judge Deborah Nicastro are the authors of the Ohio Driver's License Suspensions and Reinstatement Handbook, and they collaborate on MuniCourtNotes, a blog concerning pertinent municipal court issues. Mr. Walton currently teaches Trial Advocacy as an adjunct professor at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

For many years, he coached community-based boys baseball and girls CYO basketball. University Heights named him its Volunteer of the Year in 2008 and its Citizen of the Year in 2013. Mr. Walton and his wife Anne are the parents of three grown children, Tom, Annie and Claire, and the grandparents of Kate, Bobby, and Lucy.
